Another Year, Another Party

When Ash and I were in the preliminary stages of discussing all things New Years… we happily concluded that even if it was just me, her, and a bottle of champagne on Dec 31st, it would be more than enough. After all, nobody else we knew was throwing a party and Wrigley bars demanding $100 cover charges were out of the question. It suddenly dawned on us that perhaps… just maybe… we could entertain the thought of another party… (even after vowing last NYE we could never again host a new years…. Gatsby cannot be topped!)

Mayhem before party: Sean setting up bar, Ash painting valences, bunny peeking in.
Lights hung, stripes on walls, feathers fanned
So after a quick brainstorm sesh, a Black & White new years theme evolved with visions of homemade wallpaper and invites and photobooth animals in motion. More than the decor and the excitement surrounding party planning, our party became official after considering what the new year is actually about. To celebrate the friends that have been by our side in 2013 and our community that has formed and to look forward to new friendships and adventures in 2014 is what a new year is all about.

Last year we were painting our black/white floor.
Same time this year, we throw a party in honor of our black/white floor.

Our third New Years in a row together and I wouldn't have it any other way.
At midnight we toasted and speech'ed and played and sang. We danced until the wee hours and rang in the new year with friends - old & new. Even though we woke up to a sticky after-party Lily with our purchased bunny hopping around old cans and misplaced bottles, we also felt so filled. To have such close friends in this giant city, to host over 75 people at our party and provide a space to celebrate and look to the future is a blessing I never want to take for granted.

I took photos in film all night.

black and white everywhere.
I love celebrating a new year with my bro!
[ Our Facebook invite wording: ]

In the words of the great F. Scott Fitzgerald,
and the spirit of Gatsby:
"You can't repeat the past."

Which is why a New Year calls for a New Party.
Same rockin' beats, same dancin' feet
Same level of class, same floor to dance
[and of course, your same favorite hostesses]
But a whole new year is upon us…
with a party that is recent, yet classic,
a return to our roots, and yet relevant to now.
It's simple & complex, independent & mainstream,
it's modern words in print and movies from the past…

It's all concealed in your official New Years invite to be arriving at your doorstep when you post your address to the event!

Because what better way to ring in 2014 than with our very dearest friends, raising a cup of kindness, and toasting to a whole new year.

Come one, come all,
and in the words of Ash & Rebes: "Prepare to party."

And… we may or may not have already been asked about the theme for next year… :)
